Mr. Franz Johann Timm, of Vassar, Michigan passed away suddenly early Sunday, December 29, 2019 at the age of 74.
Franz was born in Memphis, Tennessee on September 28, 1945, to the late Harvey and Charlena (Wanek) Timm. Growing up in the Genesee area, Franz graduated from Kearsley High School in 1963, where he excelled in track and was a record holder and State qualifier. During the Vietnam War, he enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served our country honorably from 1966 to 1969. After returning home, he worked for General Motors at the AC/Spark Plug Plant in Flint, Michigan. He worked for 34 years at AC as a Pipe Fitter before retiring in 1999. On December 2, 1995 Franz married Dianne (Diener) Jerome, and together they celebrated 24 years of marriage. Franz lived an active retirement, working with the crew at Albrecht Auction for many years, and from time to time at the Hanlin Funeral Home. He loved watching and feeding the birds, drinking coffee, giving friends and loved ones a wet willy or a hard time with his distinctive wit and humor, and continually tinkering in the barn. He built his projects to last, and he was a firm believer in regular maintenance. Franz was also a member of the Pineview Mennonite Church in Vassar. He loved serving his Lord and serving the church. His willingness to help will be missed, and his dependability, faithfulness and loyalty will never be forgotten.
Franz leaves to cherish his memory his family: wife, Dianne Timm; children, Bethany (Garrison) Goforth, Johanna Timm and Amanda (Nick) Seney; grandchildren, Isaac (Breanna Michael) Phipps, Nathan Phipps, Ashton Seney, and Nathaniel Seney. Franz also leaves a brother, James (Gloria) Timm, nieces and nephews, and extended family and friends.
The family has honored Franz’s request to be cremated. They will receive friends on Saturday, January 4, 2020 from 9:00 am until 11:00 am at the Pineview Mennonite Church [4415 Swaffer Road, Vassar, MI 48768], with a memorial service following to celebrate Franz’s life and legacy. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider making a gift of remembrance to the Pineview Mennonite Church.
