James (Jim) Irven Snyder, Jr. of Millington, Michigan died at home on Saturday morning September 8th, 2018. Jim was born on January 1st, 1946 to James Irven Snyder, Sr. and Beryl Texas (Mays) Snyder. Jim was the second oldest of four brothers: Jerald (Jerry), Julian (Lee), and Jan. Jim graduated from Millington High School in 1964, from Central Michigan University in 1968, and from the University of Michigan with his master’s degree. He was preceded in death in April of 2018 by his wife of 50 years, Elaine Marie (Benton) Snyder, and by his mother, father, and brother and Jerald. Jim served as a teacher and guidance counselor for 30+ years at Lapeer West High School, in Lapeer, Michigan. Jim and Elaine have two sons, Rev. Eric James Snyder (wife Dennyse) and Neil Clark Snyder (wife Megan). Jim has six grandchildren: Bryce, Wyatt, Mykah, Zackary, Gabriel, and Naomi. Jim was an avid fisherman, and loved Saginaw Bay and the Sebewaing area in particular. He was an active member of Millington United Methodist Church, and was particularly passionate about missions and making a difference in the lives of those in need. He is also survived by many special nieces, nephews, and extended family. In lieu of flowers any memorial gifts are encouraged to be designated to the mission’s program at Millington United Methodist Church.
The family has honored Jim’s request and cremation has taken place, and a private internment service will be held at a later date at the Millington Township Cemetery. Hanlin Funeral Home has been assisting the Snyder family.
