Mrs. Carol Calista Shepherd, age 94, went home to her Lord and Savior on Thursday July 3rd 2025.
Carol was born October 28 1930 to Luther and Olive Brown in Stilson Georgia. She was the remaining sibling of the 7 children. On October 12,1952 she wed Harry John Shepherd (Jack). At the time of their meeting Jack was stationed at Ft. Stewart in GA. and Carol was attending college in Savannah GA. Their wedding service was held in Detroit MI. They had 5 children and shared a lot of life and memories. They celebrated 54 years of marriage before Jack passed away in 2006. Carol loved her children and family. She and Jack had a special way of making people feel welcome in their home. At the time of her passing Carol was blessed with 22 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren and 1 great great grand daughter!
Through her lifetime Carol enjoyed sewing. Even at an early age she was creating and sewing for her older siblings and friends. She created countless wedding dresses for the family. Many brides wore her skillful handiwork! An account would not be complete without mentioning the many pieced and hand quilted quilts she made! Nor could it be complete without mention of her great cooking! Southern hospitality was served up with a lot of family favorite dishes, and all were welcome!
Carol loved the Lord. She was a long time member of Tuscola Community Church. She worshipped there and made sure her children did as well. In later years she worshipped at Millington Baptist Church. She was always eager to share Jesus with all!
She is survived by her children,Greg( Laura) Shepherd, Donald Shepherd, Barb (Dale) Driver, Clyde(Kim) Shepherd, Calista (Kurt) Hecht. 22 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and 1 great great grand child. Many nieces, nephews and cousins that will miss her wit and spunkiness!
The family will receive guests Saturday, July 12th, 2025 at Hanlin Funeral Home - Vassar MI from 3pm to 7pm.
The funeral service will be held at Tuscola Community Church in Tuscola Michigan on Sunday, July 13, 2025, at 1pm. Pastor Greg Shepherd, Pastor Dave Martin and Pastor Terry Blackmer will be sharing and officiating the ceremony. After the service, Carol will be laid to rest beside her husband Jack, at Tuscola Township Cemetery.
A dinner will be shared at TCC afterwards and everyone is encouraged to join in!
