VASSAR - David Carl Bushong was called home to his Lord on Tuesday, December 16, 2025. 

He was born in Coldwater, Michigan on November 13, 1942, the son of Vera Moog-Boston and Ernest Boyer Jr. On May 3, 1968, he married his life-long companion and soul mate, Thelma Hall of Montgomery, Indiana. They were blessed with two children, Brian M. (married to Christine Littich) Bushong and Rebecca L. (married to Larry Weller) Bushong-Weller. He has one grandson, Damian B. Bushong. David was preceded in death by his mother, Vera; his father, in the faith, Calvin Boston, and his sister Nancy Boston; his brother, Ronald Bushong, of Mt. Vernon, Ohio; his sister, Caroll Bebout, of Coldwater, Michigan. Surviving him is his sister, Susan (David) Snyder, also of Coldwater. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews; and by Katie Mackley Meyers and Kayla Parrent Dirker, loved grandchildren of the heart.

David graduated from Coldwater High School in 1961, and from the Cincinnati Bible College in 1969 He also graduated from Saginaw Valley State University in 1978 in Mechanical Engineering, and in 2007 with a Master of Science degree from Saginaw Valley State University. David served as minister for two years at Fountain City, Indiana, Church of Christ, and for an additional two years at Novesta Church of Christ in Cass City, Michigan, and supply preached at several local churches. David was employed by Leach Engineering, Baker-Perkins (APV), Saginaw Steering Gear, and Saginaw Machine Systems (SMS), all of Saginaw, Michigan as a machine design engineer. On May 10, 1988 he was granted patent # 4,742,719 from the United States Patent Office.

He was a past member of the Saginaw-Bay Church of Christ, and the Hopevale Church in Saginaw, and he had been attending the Frankenmuth Bible Church for several years. He served on the Tuscola Township (MI) Board for 12 years, as well as the Township Parks and Recreation and Planning Commission; and the Zoning Board of Appeals. David was instrumental in converting the Tuscola School building into the Tuscola Township Hall. David’s interests included reading Civil War History, theology, amateur radio [call sign WB8TLZ], woodcarving, oil painting, building flint lock muzzle loading rifles, and spending time with his family. He was Past President of CARF, the Christian Amateur Radio Fellowship.

Funeral services for David will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 19, 2025 at Hanlin Funeral Home in Vassar; visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. and last until the time of service. Pastor Joseph Berkobien will preside. Interment in Tuscola Township Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to PPI Ministries, directed by our friend Ken MacGillivray, who is currently teaching indigenous pastors in Haiti, and providing Bibles for Haitian Christians.
