Don was the son of the late Leonard & Agnes (Sindilier) Mercer and was born in Flint, Michigan on March 1, 1931. He lived his life in Millington where he grew up and graduated from Millington High School class of 1950. On August 12, 1950, Don married Miss Patsy Zink, and together they celebrated 73 years of marriage. Don retired from the Buick Motor Division of General Motors working 40 years as a carpenter for Buick. He loved his time hunting and fishing. One of Don’s favorite pass times was working with wood. He was a masterful carver and created many cherished pieces. His real pride and joy in his life was his family and spending time with them.
Don leaves to cherish many memories, wife Patsy and family, seven children: Dan (Patty) Mercer, Karen (Steve) Hess, David (Janet) Mercer, Dale (Tracy) Mercer, Donna (Dan) Weber, Dean Mercer, and Dawn (Tim) Rueger. Don also leaves several grandchildren, great grandchildren, a sister Lois Weinzierl, and two brothers, Clare (Donna) Mercer, and Tim (Doris) Mercer, many nieces, nephews extended family and friends. Besides his parents Don is also preceded in death by two brothers LeRoy, and Ken, and a sister Marian.
The Mercer family will receive friends on Sunday April 28, 2024, at the Hanlin Funeral Home in Millington from 3:00 pm until 7:00 pm and for a brief time Monday morning from 10:00 am until services begin. Don’s funeral service will be held Monday April 29, 2024, at 11:00 am at the Hanlin Funeral Home in Millington with the burial to follow at the Millington Twp Cemetery.
