Don held an immense love for his family and cherished every moment with his grandchildren.

Donald Justin Shepherd of Munger, formerly of Tuscola, passed away unexpectedly on August 9, 2026, at the age of 70.

Don was born on November 7, 1955, the second of five children to Harry “Jack” and Carol (Brown) Shepherd. He will be remembered and deeply missed by his family and the many friends who meant so much to him.

A quiet, gentle man, Don held an immense love for his family and cherished every moment with his grandchildren. He possessed a remarkable green thumb and found great joy tending to his garden or simply spending time outdoors in nature. When relaxing inside, he could often be found engrossed in a well-loved Western novel. An avid sports enthusiast, Don was always ready to explain why Larry Bird was the greatest of all time or share his thoughts about the latest Pistons or Lions playoff run. His dry wit, calm demeanor, and kindness left a lasting impression on everyone who crossed his path.

Don is survived by his siblings, Greg (Laura) Shepherd of Vassar, Barbara (Dale) Driver of Howell, Clyde (Kim) Shepherd of Vassar, and Calista (Kurt) Hecht of Tazewell, Tennessee; his children, Justin (Mandy) Shepherd of Reese and their children, Liberty, Jackson, and Silas; Joshua (Barbara) Shepherd of Petal, Mississippi, and their children, Emily and Ella; and Lyndsey Jo Shepherd of Grand Haven and her children, Kolten and Lillien.

He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who held a special place in his heart.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, Harry “Jack” and Carol Shepherd.

He will be remembered with love by all who knew him, and his unexpected passing leaves a lasting void in the lives of his family and friends.

Don's family will welcome visitors to Hanlin Funeral Home in Vassar from 4 - 7 PM on Thursday, August 13, 2026. On Friday, August, 14, 2026, Don will lie in state at Tuscola Community Church (8956 Church Drive, Vassar, MI 48768) from 10 AM until the time of his 11 AM funeral service.
