Donna Kay Rupprecht-Schoenow was born on June 13, 1937, to Edwin and Dorothea (Boesenecker) Kern of Richville, Michigan. She was a member of St. Michael’s Lutheran Church in Richville, baptized and confirmed there. She attended St. Michael’s Lutheran School and graduated from Vassar High School.
Donna married Arnold Rupprecht in 1956, and they had 4 children – Julie, Kristie, Kurt, and Audrey. She worked for her parents at Kern’s Market in Richville and helped on the family farm. She also worked for Bronner’s Christmas Wonderland at the original store and then moved to the new location where she was the supervisor of Customer Service until she retired.
Donna married Louis Schoenow in 2005, and they enjoyed traveling and being involved with Gideons International. Sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ with everyone they met was important to them.
Donna was very involved at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church, a volunteer for many years and was a faithful member her entire life.
She was preceded in death by her children, Kristie and Kurt; husbands, Arnold and Louis; sister, Jane Rupprecht; brothers-in-law, Norman, Marvin, and Herman Rupprecht.
Donna is survived by her daughters, Julie Rupprecht and Audrey (Greg) Kostrezwa; 3 grandchildren, Jenna (Doug) Mathews, Kelsey (Justin) Cooper, and Grant Kostrezwa; 6 great-grandchildren, Julia Low, Tony and Ryan Mathews, Caroline, Karli and Kennley Cooper; 2 great-great-grandchildren, Willow and Macario Sausedo Jr.; stepchildren and their families: Jim and Suzanne Schoenow, Sam and Cayla, Rebecca, Jaclyn, Matthew; Paul and Laura Weiss; David and Jenny Schoenow, Carley, Nathan; Carl and Kris Schoenow, Alyssa and Reed Black, Beau, Emma, Brittany & Bryan Longton, Paul & Torey, William and Gabby, Reagan; Stephen & Christina Schoenow, Ella, Katarina.
She is also survived by her brothers-in-law, Melvin (Barb) Rupprecht and Edwin (Wahnita) Rupprecht; sisters-in-law, Marguerite Fischer, Edna Reinbold, and Mary Esther Rupprecht; as well as nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Her family would like to extend their thanks and appreciation to the staff at Vassar Comfort Care for the care she received while she lived there and the love and compassion that was shown to her in her final days.
Funeral services for Donna will be held at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church at 1 p.m. on Monday, June 30, 2025; visitation at church will begin at 11 a.m. and last until the time of service. Interment to follow in St. Michael’s Lutheran Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to Gideons International or a charity of one’s choice.
