VASSAR – Dr. Ruben H. Mars, III, D.V.M., aged 63, our dedicated, compassionate, kind, and loving husband, brother, uncle, veterinarian, and friend passed away suddenly on March 4, 2026, in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan.

Ruben was born on October 19, 1962, in Corunna, Michigan, to Ruben, Jr. & Sharley (Parks) Mars. He was raised alongside his brother, Russell, and sister, Pamela. Ruben graduated from Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine with the class of 1989. While in veterinary school, he met the love of his life, the former Kimberlee Buck. They were wed on November 23, 1991, and have shared countless memories, helped numerous animals, and travelled the world together. Ruben practiced in the Frankenmuth area for over 35 years with Luhring-Mars Veterinary Clinic. Further, Ruben had a love for the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and traveling Up North. He was an avid reader and faithful supporter of the Michigan State Spartans… “Go Green”! Above all, Ruben loved the time he spent with his family and on his farm surrounded by the animals he cared so deeply for. He will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him.

He is forever loved by his wife, Dr. Kimberlee Mars, D.V.M.; brother, Russell (Alicia) Mars; sister, Pamela Mars; nephews, Jacob Jehner, Nicholas Mars, and Christopher Mars; beloved golden retriever, Libby; as well as extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruben, Jr. & Sharley Mars.

A Celebration of Ruben’s Life will be announced at a later date.
