Ila M. Legue

Mrs. Ila Mae Legue, age 87 years, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2025, at Vassar Comfort Care.

She was born on October 11, 1937, in Vassar, Michigan, the daughter of the late Clare and Julia (Cole) Force. On December 18, 1954, she married Charles Wesley Legue. Ila worked in the library at Glaza School until she retired. After retirement, Charles & Ila moved to Boyne Falls where they enjoyed fishing, camping, morel mushroom hunting, bingo, and trips to the casino until Charles’ passing on December 12, 2016. In 2017, Ila moved back to Vassar with her daughters.

Surviving family include children, Debbie (Charles) Slater, Carrie Daenzer, Charles (Lisa Whitaker) Legue II; grandchildren: Jeff McCrandall, Cory Slater, Danille Slater, Crissy (Dennis) Dutcher, Brandy (Larry) Mangold, Angela (Josh) Turnbull, and Chas (Tenley Melick) Legue; many great-grandchildren; sister, Donna (Force) Cain; sister-in-law, Jeannie (Kohler) Force; as well as nieces and nephews.

Ila was preceded in death by her sister, Betty Kischnick; brothers, Robert Force, and Arnold Force; brothers-in-law, Chet Cain, and Harvey Kischnick; and son-in-law, Ronald Daenzer.

Ila’s family will receive visitors at Hanlin Funeral Home in Vassar from 3 – 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 27, 2025. Services for Ila will follow at the funeral home at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 28, 2025; additional visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Afterward, Ila will be laid to rest in Eastlawn Memorial Gardens, next to her husband Charles Legue.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
