VASSAR – Mrs. Irene Emma Carolyn Gohsman, aged 87, our loving, witty, kind, curious, nurturing, and vibrant mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend went home to her Lord and Savior on Sunday, June 14, 2026, at Winter Village in Frankenmuth, Michigan.
Irene was born on April 18, 1939, in Reese, Michigan, the daughter of the late Fred & the late Emma (Bielert) Bekemeier. She grew up alongside her siblings and graduated from Vassar High School and later attended the Saginaw Business Institute. On August 8, 1959, she married John L. Gohsman at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church in Richville. Together they shared countless memories, raised their sons, and celebrated over 55 years of marriage before John’s passing in 2004. Irene retired from tax and accounting services work after 40 years of dedicated service. A woman of faith, she was a lifelong member of St. Michael’s Lutheran Church. Irene was an avid bowler and participated in various leagues. She also enjoyed walking with her neighbors and playing a good game of euchre. She enjoyed watching and cheering for the Detroit Tigers and Detroit Pistons. Above all, Irene loved her family and her happiest moments were spent with them.
She is survived by her son, Kirk (Ashley) Gohsman; grandchildren: Kylie (Kent) Hodges, Aaron (Julia) Gohsman, and Evan Gohsman; great-granddaughter, Lucia Hodges; brothers, Edward (Sally) Bekemeier and Don Bekemeier; sister-in-law, Marvel Bekemeier; as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Irene is welcomed home to heaven by her beloved husband, John L. Gohsman; son, John L. Gohsman, Jr.; brothers, Fred Bekemeier, Arnold (the late Deanna) Bekemeier, and Ray Bekemeier; and her parents.
Funeral services for Irene will be held at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church (3455 S. Van Buren Road, Reese, MI 48757) at 11 A.M. on Thursday, June 18, 2026; visitation at church will begin at 10 A.M. and last until the time of service. Rev. Wes Gillaspie will officiate. Afterwards, Irene will be laid to rest in St. Michael’s Lutheran Cemetery next to her husband, John. Following Irene's services the family would like to invite friends to the St. Michaels Parish Hall for a luncheon to be served.

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures.
He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul.
He leads me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil, for you are with me;
your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life,
and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
