James Stuart (Jimmy) Forsyth (84 years old) passed away at his earthly home and went to his heavenly home to be with Jesus on August 7, 2026. Jimmy was born to Minnie (Mamerow) and Henry Forsyth in Millington on December 29, 1941, the youngest of their 10 children. He grew up in a loving and learning-rich environment, surrounded by his parents, and his older siblings.

Jimmy’s formal education began at the State Road School in Millington Township. He graduated from Millington High School as an honor student in 1960. He was the freshman class president, and the senior class treasurer. Jimmy also participated in forensics and was a member of the Millington High School football team as a junior and senior.

Jimmy joined the US Air Force on December 1, 1961, and completed a police course at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas in March 1962. Soon after basic training, he was assigned to Chateauroux Air Station in France where he was an air policeman in the 7322nd Air Police Squadron. He guarded planes at night. Mr. Kern’s typing class he took at Millington High School served him well while he was in the military when he was assigned to office support jobs during his time in service. On April 23, 1965, Jimmy received an honorable discharge as an Airman 2nd Class.

Following his military service, Jimmy worked at various jobs (carpentry, manufacturing, shoeing horses), but eventually (1971) he went to work loading the delivery trucks for IGA Super Foods in Bridgeport, where he worked for 29 years, retiring on November 9, 2000. He made many lifelong friends at Super Foods.

In the early 1970s, Jimmy also discovered his life’s passion, one he shared with his brother Norman. He spent much of the rest of his life raising, training and racing harness horses. He and Norman raced at county fairs and parimutuel tracks in Michigan and occasionally in Ontario, Canada. The first horse he trained was Bell’s Freight. Norman had to drive the horse in its first race because Jimmy didn’t have his driver license yet. His most successful horse in terms of wins was Tennora. In 1991, Jimmy’s horse Jenny Rova that he bred and trained, won its very first race, the “Wolverine Futurity.” Jenny Rova was sold immediately after the race for the highest amount Jimmy ever made for a horse.

Although Jimmy did not have children of his own, he had the opportunity to help raise a young boy named Tim beginning in the late 1970s. As Tim grew up, Jimmy taught him to care for, train and drive harness horses, and Tim had his own horse, named Arbor Tim that he raced. Tim and Jimmy stayed in regular contact and were very close.

Jimmy was a member of the United States Trotting Association, the Michigan Harness Horseman’s Association, and the American Legion.

He is survived by his sister Elinor Kroll, sweetheart and recent care giver Charlotte (Barnard) Wurm, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and eight brothers and sisters: Gertrude Foley, Albertine Burns, Henry Forsyth, Helen Forsyth, Burton Forsyth, Norman Forsyth, Carolyn Pletcher, and Wilma Jean Forsyth.

Friends and family are invited to visit with Jimmy’s family and share their memories on Tuesday, August 11th from 4:00 until 8:00 pm at the Hanlin Funeral Home in Millington, and on Wednesday, August 12th from 10:00 until 11:00 am, prior to the 11:00 am funeral service at the Hanlin Funeral Home. Military honors will follow the funeral service.
