VASSAR – Jodi Ann Shamel-Ward (Armstrong), aged 56, our kind, dedicated, and loving mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, niece, aunt, and dear friend passed away at her home on October 28, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.
Jodi was born in Saginaw, Michigan, on April 23, 1970, daughter of Raymond Shamel Sr. & Margaret “Meg” (Sipes) Harper. She grew up in Vassar alongside her siblings and attended Vassar Schools. A woman of faith, Jodi was a lifelong member of the Vassar Church of the Nazarene. Jodi enjoyed the quiet moments and simple things in life, whether it be a coffee to start her day or enjoying the tranquility of the beach and water. She also liked the occasional casino trip or day spent with friends. Above all, Jodi’s greatest joy in life was her family and her happiest moments were spent at family gatherings and holidays. She will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her children: Jonathan (Kimberlee) Ward, Taylor (Jerrit) Evans, and Grace Davis; grandchildren: Peyton and Camden; father, Raymond Shamel Sr.; mother, Meg (Mike) Harper; siblings: Raymond (Sheila) Shamel Jr., Michael Harper, Mark (Lisa) Harper, and Christine Harper; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and other family members; special friends: Mindi & Frank Harris, Cathy Belich, Shawn & Mark Williams, and countless other friends.
Jodi is reunited with her husband, Daniel Ward, they were married on April 28, 1990, and he passed on January 31, 2004; and her beloved son, Christopher.
A celebration of Jodi’s life will be announced soon. Please check often for details.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be directed to a charity of one’s choice to honor Jodi’s giving nature.
