Mr. John Bernard Kenny, age 98, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 24, 2024.
John was born on August 21, 1925, in Royal Oak, Michigan, to the late Thomas & the late Mary (Noah) Kenny. He graduated from Lindsay High School in Lindsay, California during his enlistment in the U.S. Army from 1943-1946. John's service in the Army included the Luzon Campaign in the Pacific Theatre of World War II and he is a recipient of a Purple Heart. On August 31, 1946, John married Henrietta. Together they shared nearly 33 years of marriage before she passed away on August 16, 1979. John found love again when he met Blanche Huff, they were companions for 43 years before her passing on October 3, 2023.
During his working years, John was a cabinet maker and owned his own business, Progressive Cabinets, in Otisville, Michigan. Outside of work, John enjoyed woodworking, golfing at Willow Springs Golf & Country Club, traveling, watching the Detroit Red Wings & western movies, and taking care of his lawn. He will be remembered as a kind, loving, sweet, and hard-working man.
John is survived by his stepchildren: Willie, Cheryl, and Warren (Cheryl); grandchildren: Danielle (Cita), Brooke (Don), Keesha (Victor), Dustin (Kennedy), Concetta, Erin, Laura (Shawn), Destiny, Felicia (Alfred), Megan (Thomas), Nicole (Myles), and Jason (Julia); great-grandchildren: Hayden, Eli, Shawn Jr., Kalhaku, Blanche, Raven, Kingson, Patty, Contessa, Lakota, Preston, Sundance, Caleb, Savanna, Victor Jr., Donavan, Lilyana, Anthony, Lillian, Stella, Logan, Mino, Amisk, Naj O; and great-great-grandchildren: Rose and Kyrie; nephew, Donald and his wife Kay, daughter Heather and husband James, children Alexander, Abigayle. Daughter, Tracey (deceased) husband Paul (deceased), daughter, Maggie; nephew, Ted and wife Mary Lou, daughter Deborah, children Chuck and wife Ashley, Beth Husband Jerry, and Barrett, son, Michael and wife Linda, and niece, Gayle Chick (deceased); as well as his beloved dog, Chipper "Mr. Chips" a loyal friend and companion.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Henrietta; companion, Blanche; son, Larry; grandson, Joey; and son-in-law, Larry White.
John's family will welcome visitors to Hanlin Funeral Home - Millington on Friday, March 1, 2024, from 3-7 p.m. Funeral services for John will follow at the funeral home on Saturday, March 2, 2024 at 11 a.m.; additional visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Chaplain Perry Parker to officiate. Interment and military funeral honors to follow in Millington Township Cemetery. A luncheon is to follow at Willow Springs Golf & Country Club.
