East Flint Church of Nazarene
3:00 - 7:00 pm (Eastern time)
Mr. John L. Lucas, aged 54, our kind, selfless, sarcastic, and loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 10, 2026, at McLaren Hospital in Flint, Michigan, surrounded by his loving family.
John was born June 30, 1971, in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. Through work, he met the former Joannie Wetenhall and on their first date he said that they were to be married. Those words came to fruition and the two wed on February 15, 2000, and have shared over 26 years of marriage and countless memories. John was a journeyman pipefitter for General Motors Bus & Truck in Flint and was a very proud member of U.A.W. Local 659. Notably, he earned his degree from Mott Community College, an accomplishment he was very proud of. John had many hobbies, but his favorites included traveling the world, snorkeling, and cruising with his beloved wife, Joannie. A man of faith, John was a member of East Flint Church of the Nazarene. Above all, John’s happiest moments were spent with his family and friends. His greatest accomplishment was being the beloved “Papa” to his grandkids. He will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him.
He is forever loved by his wife, Mrs. Joannie Lucas; mother, Pamela Nanni; father, Jeff Nanni; grandmother, Audrey Nanni; children, Brianna (Chase Bufford) Hill of Guthrie, OK, and Austin Lucas of Millington, MI; grandchildren: Weston Hill, Oakleigh Hill, Hazel Lucas, Hazel Williams, and Tomi Williams; sisters: Tammy (Wayne) Hodges of Florida, Kristen (Brian) Williams of Texas, Kristie (Matt) Brzezinski of Birch Run, MI; and stepsister, Rachel (Tim) Kamen; in-laws, Daniel & Becky Wetenhall; as well as extended family and friends.
John was preceded in death by stepsister, Audrey Nanni.
A celebration of John’s life will be held on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, from 3 – 7 pm at East Flint Church of the Nazarene (3515 N. Belsay Rd., Flint, MI 48506).
