Larry Keinath, age 74, of Vassar passed away peacefully on May 4, 2021 on his centennial farm, following a brief illness, surrounded by family and friends.
He was born July 22, 1946 to the late Henry and Lillian (Koeppendoerfer) Keinath. He was raised in Vassar, Michigan, graduated from Vassar High School in 1964, and attended Delta College. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Millington. Larry was a partner with his brothers in Keinath Brothers' Dairy Farm for over 50 years. Over the years, he was a member and held offices in MMPA, DHIA, Select Sires and District 1 Holstein. He was past president of the Tuscola County 4-H and a leader in the Richville Livestock 4-H club. He valued assisting countless youth with their 4-H projects, including all his nieces and nephews. He enjoyed showing registered Holsteins all his life and in later years, also showed Brown Swiss at the Tuscola County Fair, the Michigan State Fair, and many other livestock shows.
Larry, affectionately known a U.L., was everyone's favorite uncle, related or not. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Larry was the drop-in neighbor that never failed to bring out laughter with his quick, witty humor and his ability to tease. He enjoyed his trips to the stockyards, going to grab a popsicle, taking a crop tour, and catching up on neighborhood "news" as well as lunches and coffee with friends. His quick, witty humor would always make you smile. Larry took great pleasure with his life on his farm, his cows and chickens, rarely missing chores.
Larry leaves to cherish his memory, his brother Robert (Elaine) Keinath; sister Janice (James) Kribs; and brother John (Carol) Keinath; brother-in-law Ralph (Marie) Worden, 11 nieces and nephews, many great nieces and nephews, plus many special friends. Larry was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Lillian Keinath. sister Roesmary Worden, brother Ron Keinath, and sister-in-law Kay Keinath.
The family would like to give a special recognition for his two special caregivers, Lori Hecht and Janel Woodward for going above and beyond during the last few months. The Keinath family will receive friends at Hanlin Funeral Home on Friday, May 7, 2021 from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be at St. Paul Lutheran Church on Saturday, May 8, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. with burial to follow at Millington Twp.
