Lois Monroe

FLINT TWP–formerly of Millington, Michigan Mrs. Lois May Monroe, age 89, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 1, 2023, at Angel Manor Assisted Living in the care of her loving family.

Lois was born in Flint on May 21, 1933, to parents Buster & Hazel (Fisher) Fisher. She was the middle child of five children. She graduated from Millington High School with the Class of 1951, where she was a part of the softball team. Afterwards, she married the love of her life and high school sweetheart, Jack Monroe, on July 28, 1951. They celebrated 64 years of marriage before Jack passed away in 2015. Lois was a homemaker and enjoyed crocheting, decorating her home, camping, and being a devoted grandmother to her grandchildren.

Lois is survived by her children: Steven (LaVerne) Monroe, Ron Monroe, Earl (Carol) Monroe, Gale Monroe, and Cindy (Tom) Halcomb; 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and 7 great-great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

She Is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jack; parents, Buster & Hazel; siblings: Helen Hourtenne, Hank Fisher, Jim Fisher, and Carol Themm.

The family will welcome guests to Hanlin Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 4th, 2023, from 2-7 P.M. and again, on Thursday, January 5th, 2023, from 11-1 P.M. Services for Lois will begin at 1 P.M. on Thursday, January 5th, 2023, at Hanlin Funeral Home and immediately afterwards Lois will be laid to rest next to her husband, Jack, at Flint Memorial Park in Mt. Morris, Michigan.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to donate in Lois’ name are asked to consider The Alzheimer’s Association.
