North Lake (Otter Lake)
NORTH LAKE (OTTER LAKE) – Mr. Michael Edward “Mike” Owens, age 78, a loving husband, devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and a friend to many, passed away peacefully on September 7, 2026, at home surrounded by his loving family.
Mike was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Nancy; and two great-grandsons, Baby Ray and Lil Tate.
Mike and Nancy were married on July 19, 1968, and together they built a beautiful life while raising their six children. He is survived by his children: Toni (Bill) Tarrant, Tricia (Bruce) Lawrence, Tanya Keiter, Tiffany Erickson, Tyler Owens, and Tanner Owens. He was also blessed with 11 grandchildren: Allyson, Garrett, Kaitlyn, Kensingten, Chaise, Dyllon, Kody, Jasmine, Jimi, Mariah, and Christian; and 16 great-grandchildren who brought him countless moments of joy and pride.
Throughout his working life, Mike dedicated himself to serving others. He spent many years at Buick City in Flint, Michigan, where he was a proud member of UAW Local 599. He also had a brief stint as a corrections officer in Marquette, MI at the prison, as well as being a reserve officer for the Otter Lake Police Department.
Mike had a lifelong passion for learning and believed in the importance of continuing to grow and educate himself. He earned an associate degree in criminal justice, a bachelor’s degree in sociology, and a master’s degree in psychology. During the early 1980s, he ran a workforce program in Tuscola County, helping others find opportunities and build better futures.
Above all, Mike found purpose in helping people. Through his work, community involvement, and willingness to lend a hand, he made a meaningful difference in the lives of those around him.
After Nancy’s passing, Mike’s sons, Tyler and Tanner, devoted themselves to caring for their father. As his caregivers, they remained by his side, providing love, support, and companionship until his passing. Their dedication reflected the deep love Mike had poured into his family and throughout his life.
Mike leaves behind a legacy of love, service, perseverance, and family. His children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family, and all those whose lives he touched will carry his memory with them. He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished, by the family he was so proud to call his own.
Private arrangements have been made.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks to keep Mike’s legacy alive by paying forward a good deed onto others.
