Mr. Bernard Jakubik

Bernard Jakubik, age 93 passed on to his heavenly home on January 26, 2014.

Bernie was born on May 6, 1920 in Detroit Michigan, to Valentine and Sophie (Gorecki) Jakubik, the oldest of six children. He graduated from Millington High School. Bernie volunteered and proudly served his country in WWII. During his 3½ yr tour he was awarded the Good Conduct Medal and the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with Five Bronze Stars and One Bronze Arrowhead.


In 1961 Bernie married Charla Mae Leach in Vassar Michigan. In 1963 they purchased a second home on Higgins Lake and their time was spent between the two homes. He and Charla raised four children in Millington, Michigan. In 1986 they retired to the home on Higgins Lake. Bernie had great memories of the farmers in Millington and surrounding areas working for the Michigan Artificial Breeders Co-op and McDonald Dairy. He retired from Eaton Corp. as a quality control lab technologist and environmental protection control mediary. Bernie was a family man and enjoyed his friends and neighbors. He loved going on his pontoon and fishing in the summer as well as snowmobiling and playing cards in the winter. Everyone knew Bernie as a friendly, outgoing man, always ready and willing to lend a hand. He had an amazing memory and many skills that included chair caning, woodworking, gardening, and the ability to fix anything and everything.

He is preceded in death by his wife Charla, son-in-law Randy Page, daughter Autumn Bago, and his brothers Joseph, Edward, Walter and Theodore.

Bernie is survived by his 3 remaining children: Dennis (Lynn) Jakubik of Grand Rapids, Burdette Page of Montrose, Victoria (Lance) Lovegrove of Clio, five grandchildren: Holly (Jon) Ringler, Emily Jakubik, Grant Lovegrove, Morgan Lovegrove and Mikenzie Lovegrove, his sister Eleanor Moore of Caro and numerous nieces, nephews and in-laws.

Service Information

The funeral mass was held on Thursday January 30, 2014 at St Frances Xavier Cabrini Catholoc Church in Vassar, MI. Private burial was held later Thursday afternoon at the Millington Township Cemetery in Millington. The Conrad-Wager & Keene American Legion Post concluded services at the cemetery with Military Honors.
