Mr. Harland Nelson of Millington passed away late Saturday morning Oct.-17-2015 with family at his side, while at the McLaren Regional Medical Center of Flint MI. Harland was 84.


Harland was born April 17, 1931 in Flint, Michigan and was the son of Oscar and Lela (Glidden) Nelson. Harland was a graduate of Millington High School. After graduation Harland served our country in the US-Army during the Korean War. On October 3, 1953 Harland married Miss Berniece Sebert, and together they’ve celebrated 62 years of marriage. Harland retired in 1988 after 36 years with General Motors Grand Blanc, retiring as a Machine Repairmen. Harland loved sports, he use to love coaching little league baseball; he was also a true Spartans Fan. The family couldn’t help but wonder if he had a guiding hand in the Spartan victory at the last ten seconds of the historical rival football game between Michigan/Michigan State on Saturday.

Harland leaves to cherish his memory his wife Berniece. He leaves also two daughters and a son in-law; Pam and husband Dave Englehart, and Penney Younger and Bruce Harris. Harland also leaves his three granddaughters, Jennifer and husband Scott Koch, Tamara and husband Tim Schultz, and Nicole and husband Michael Dewey. He leaves also nine great grandchildren, and a great-great grandchild, a brother Dean and wife Evelyn Nelson, and a sister Awanda Ishmael, and many nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. Besides his parents, Harland is preceded in death by an infant daughter Patricia, a son in-law Ron Younger, and three brothers, Dick Haskins, and Bob and Kyrle Nelson.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday Oct. 20, 2015 at the Hanlin Funeral Home in Millington from 2:00 pm to 7:00 pm and on Wednesday at 12:00 noon and hour prior to services beginning. Funeral services for Harland will be held Wednesday Oct. 21, 2015 at the Hanlin Funeral Home at 1:00 pm. The burial will follow at the Flint Memorial Park Cemetery in Mt. Morris; MI. Family friend Elaine Bickel will give the eulogy and the closing prayer at the cemetery. Cemetery service will then be concluded with Military Honors conducted by the Conrad-Wager & Keene American Legion Post 164 of Millington. Memorial gifts of remembrance can be directed to either the Millington – Arbela Historical Society, the Millington Community Center, or the Millington Athletic Boosters.
