Mr. Helmuth McCurdy

H. Duane McCurdy passed peacefully late Tuesday evening, June 14, 2016, at his residence surrounded by family. Duane was 84.

Duane was born July 31, 1931 in North Branch, Michigan to the late Helmuth and Dorothy McCurdy. On October 25, 1958, he married the love of his life, Marlene Haines, who survives him. He leaves his children: Sandy (Gary) Lince, Darrel (Carla), and David (Joni) McCurdy; grandchildren: Erik (Meghan) Lince, Stacie (Eric) Farnsworth, Zachary McCurdy, Shawn McCurdy, Cory McCurdy, Amy (Corey) Love, and Sara (Kai) McCurdy; great grandchildren: Piper Lince, Ayla Farnsworth, Kyrie and Kason Love; sisters: Janice Fowler and Maxine DeClute; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Duane joined the U.S. Army at the age of 17 and served for seven years. He was a Veteran of the Korean War. Following his service to our country, Duane worked at Neeland’s Lumber Co. in Clio. From 1961-1977, he owned and operated McCurdy Trucking. Duane ended his trucking career after many years with Bader Brothers of Reese.

In honoring Duane's wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be a time of gathering, sharing, and reminiscing, on Friday, June 24, 2016 at Hanlin Funeral Home from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. The burial with full Military Honors, which the McCurdy family wishes to invite you to attend, will take place on Saturday, June 25, 2016 at 11:00 am at the Newton Cemetery (on Millington Road, 1/2 mile west of Bray Road). A luncheon at the Frankenmuth American Legion Hall will follow. Memorial gifts of remembrance in Duane's memory may be directed to the family so that a memorial fund can be established.
