Mrs.Doris Valentine

October 24, 1923 — August 10, 2012

Mrs. Doris M. Valentine a lifelong Millington resident passed from our world into God's hands late Friday afternoon while at the Covenant health Care Center Cooper Campus in Saginaw, with her family at her side.Doris was 88.

Doris was born in Millington, Michigan on October 24, 1923 and was the daughter of the late Wilson and Anna Seelye of Millington. On May 18, 1946 she married Robert Valentine and together they celebrated 66 years of marriage. Doris was a member of the United Methodist Church of Millington and was very active in the Millington-Arbela Historical Society, of which she was treasurer. She and her husband Bob spent many hours working with the historical museum in Millington.

Doris worked for Michigan Milk Producers in Detroit as a young girl. From there she went on to be a legal secretary in Berkley, Michigan and eventually went on to own her own tax practice. She prepared tax returns for clients in the metro Detroit area and later on for many, many clients in the Millington area when she moved back to Millington with her family in 1969. She was able to continue that practice unto the present day.

Doris was an avid gardener, having grown up on the farm owned by her father as a young girl. She was an incredible cook and baker and many in town have come to know her for the pies she baked for the bake sales at the Historical Society. Doris also enjoyed bowling and did so for many years in a women's league in Otter Lake and later in a mixed league with friends at Candlelite Bowl in Bridgeport. She adored her grandkids and spent many hours at various sporting events cheering them on.

Doris was an amazing wife, mother and grandmother but more than that, she was a friend to many and always there for those in need. She selflessly gave her time, energy and love to all of those around her in whatever she did. She was incredibly proud of her family and loved spending time with family and friends.

Doris leaves behind her husband of 66 years, Bob, her daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Terry Lang of Birmingham, two beloved grandchildren, Kayla and Nicholas, and many, many friends. She is proceeded in death by her parents, her sister, Mable Bowerman, also of Millington, and her nieces Betty Uerling, Dorothy Roth and Mary Swenski.
