Mrs. Dorothy Spender

Mrs. Dorothy (Mills) Spender of Bay City, MI formerly of Millington, MI passed away early Friday morning September 29, 2017 while at the McLaren-Bay Region Medical Center in Bay City, MI. Dorothy was 93.

Dorothy was the daughter of the late Harry and Anna (Johnson) Mills, and was born in Millington, MI on November 28, 1923. On November 19, 1949 Dorothy married Harry (Bud) Spender and together they celebrated 56 years of marriage before Bud passed away in 2006. For many years Dorothy operated the Town & Country Beauty Salon out on the corner of Millington and Vassar road’s where she and her clients laughed talked and she enjoyed many hours and years of making the women of Millington beautiful. Dorothy and her family were all very proud that she served our country in the US-Navy during WW-II. Dorothy was a devoted christian, a loving mother and grandmother and will be missed by many.

Dorothy leaves her family to cherish her memory. Her children; Dennis and Marlene Spender, Gail Spender, Sherry Crowell and Bill & Mary Jo Burgett. She leaves also her grandchildren; Chandra,and Devon Gilliam, Neale and Megan Spender, Chad Spender, Justin and Bethany Crowell, Stephen, Christopher and Amanda Burgett. A special grandson; Adam and Jackie Magnuson, 8-great grandchildren, a sister Mrs. Evelyn Rendelmann, and several nieces, nephews, and other extended family. Besides her husband Bud, and her parents, Dorothy is preceded in death by other siblings and family members.

The Spender family will receive friends at the Hanlin Funeral Home in Millington on Sunday Oct.-1-2017 from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm. On Monday Dorothy will lie in-state at the Millington Church of the Nazarene from 10:00 am until the services begin. Funeral Services for Dorothy will be on Monday Oct-2-2017 at the Millington Church of the Nazarene at 11:00 am. The burial will follow at the Millington Twp. Cemetery. Military Honors will be conducted by the Conrad-Wager & Keene American Legion Post #164. Memorial Gifts of Remembrance can be directed to a charity of one’s choice.
