Mrs. Maxine Conaway

Mrs. Maxine P. (Freewald) Conaway of Bridgeport, MI passed away Monday afternoon May 1, 2017 while at the Cartwright Center in Saginaw, Twp. MI. Maxine was 87.

Maxine was born in Vassar, MI on September 23, 1929 and was the daughter of the late Fred & Minnie (Wingert) Freewald. Maxine retired from the Steering Gear Division of General Motors in Saginaw, MI with 20 years of service. She was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church in Bridgeport MI. Maxine was involved in United Way for 20 years, was a member of UAW Local 699, serving 10 years as chair for the Women’s Committee. Maxine work on the Civil Rights News Paper at plant 7 and 2., and was also involved with the Saginaw Cop. Council. Maxine was also a proud member of the Red Hat Society retaining membership in both the Bridgeport and Reese MI chapters.

Maxine leaves her family. She leaves; Linda and Don Noble, Janet and Max Steele, Thomas G. and Marcia Conaway Jr. Karen and Tom Manial, Christal Luna, and Christine and Robert Goldsberry. She leaves also; 15 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, 5-great-great grandchildren, and two sisters and a very close friend Gloria Estrada. Besides her parents Maxine has been preceded in death by several siblings.

The family has honored Maxine’s request and cremation has taken place, a private burial of her urn will be held at a later date. There will be a memorial gathering on Thursday May 4, 2017 at the Faith Lutheran Church [4241 Williamson Rd.] in Bridgeport MI 48722. beginning at 10:00 am. Then beginning at 12:00 noon on Thursday there will be a celebration service to celebrate Maxine’s life. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts of remembrance can be directed to; Sandra Kahn Foundation, or the Faith Lutheran Pre-School program.
