Mrs. Muriel Jones

Jones, Vera Edith (Muriel) age 90 of Millington died January 20, 2012 at her home. Muriel was born in Millington on June 16, 1921 to George and Ethel Root. She married Maynard Jones on June 16, 1941. He preceded her in death on December 5, 2003.

Muriel worked at The Lapeer State Home, later known as Oakdale Center, from 1960 until she retired in 1977. She contributed a newspaper column called The Gunnell News to The Millington Herald for 25 years. Muriel enjoyed needlework, gardening, and spending time with her family. She was an excellent cook who specialized in comfort food.

She is survived by sons Gary (Janice) Jones, Glenn (Diane) Jones both of Millington, George (Christy) Jones of Davison; eight grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; brother Lyndon (Jean) Root of Davison. She was preceded in death by her husband Maynard, six sisters, and granddaughter Michelle Johnson. I lieu of flowers those desiring may make contributions to the Millington-Arbela Historical Society or the Millington Community Center

Service Information

Funeral services were held at 1:00 PM Monday January 23, 2012 at the Hanlin Funeral Home in Millington. The burial followed at the Millington Township Cemetery. Pastor Gayle Allen delivered the funeral message and the closing prayers at the cemetery. Memorial gifts of remembrance in lieu of flowers can be given to the Millington-Arbela Historical Society, or to the Millington Community Center.
