Mrs. Patricia Whitton

Mrs. Patricia G. (McNamara) Whitton of Millington passed away early Friday morning August 28, 2015 at her residence. Patricia was 90.

Patricia was born in Manistique, MI on June 16, 1925 and was the daughter of the late Leo and Cordelia (Linck) McNamara. She was preceded in death by her sisters Catherine Boudreau and Charlotte Meyle and by her brother Patrick McNamara.

After graduating from Manistique High School in 1943 she came to Detroit to work in the Bomber Plant at Willow Run, in support of the war effort, and lived with her Aunt Esther (Linck) Andrews. In the Fall of 1944 she attended Providence Hospital School of Nursing as a candidate in the U.S. Cadet Nurse Corps. She worked as a Registered Nurse at Providence Hospital, Mount Carmel Mercy Hospital and St Mary's Hospital in the Detroit area. Over the years she was a member of St Suzanne, St Valentine, and St Francis Cabrini Church communities. Patricia loved her family, church and gardening.

On December 29, 1949 she married the late Giles G Whitton and they were celebrated 59 years together prior to his death in 2009. She was the loving mother of Catherine (James Sr.) Pietrzak, Patrick (Grace), Susan (Allen) White, Mary (Steven) Kern, Monica (John) Ziraldo, Ann (Samuel) Villa, Raymond (Margaret), Leo (Gina), and the late Giles Jr and mother in law of Carol. Patricia also was the dear grandmother of James Pietrzak, Erin Elliott (Pietrzak), James and Lyndsey Whitton, Ray, Ken and Greg White, Alex, Tim and Nate Kern, Cordelia and Quirico Ziraldo, Sam, Aaron, Jared, Ben, Holly, (Paul) Allen, Emily, Caitlyn Villa, Jacob, Zach, Matt, Catrina, Sarah and Patrick. Patricia was the great grandmother of Laura Catherine Pietrzak.

The family will receive friends at The Hanlin Funeral Home (4823 West Main Street, Miliington, MI 48746) on Tuesday sept 1 from 3:00pm to 8:00 pm. The memorial vigil will begin at 7:00pm. Patricia will be laid in state on Wednesday September 2 at 10:00am at St Francis Cabrini Catholic Church ( 334 Division St Vassar, MI 48768), the funeral mass will begin at 11:00am, with the burial to follow at Millington Township Cemetery.
