Mrs. Shirley Matheson

February 12, 1927 — June 12, 2016

Mrs. Shirley E (Mathes) Matheson of Birch Run, Michigan formerly of Millington, Michigan passed away late Sunday afternoon June 10, 2016 while at the Maple Wood Manor Nursing Home in Clio, Michigan. Shirley was 89.


Shirley was born on February 12, 1927 in Minneapolis, Minnesota and was the daughter of the late George and Ethel (Casler) Mathes. Shirley married Mr. Thomas D. Matheson on Nov. 9, 1946, Tom has preceded her in death in September of 1985. Shirley worked for many years with Michigan Bell Telephone, but she retired from Mid-Night Alarm Co. as a dispatcher.


Shirley leaves her family. Three children; Timothy (Tim) Matheson, Tami and husband Dennis Carlson, and Tom Matheson. Shirley leaves also eight grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, a brother and sister in-law, Bruce and Rose Mathes, as well as several nieces, nephews, and other extended family. Besides her parents and husband Shirley is also preceded in death by a son Theodore H. (Ted) Matheson in December of 1985, a daughter Teri Brockett in 2009, and a daughter in-law Roxanne Matheson in 2015.


The Matheson family has honored Shirley’s wish and cremation has taken place, with private burial service and burial of her urn. The family wishes to thank everyone for their kindness, prayers and thoughts during this time. The would like to express their heart felt gratitude and appreciation the Maple Wood Manor Nursing Home for the loving care that was given to their mom.
