Mrs Shirley Shaffer

Mrs. Shirley O. Shaffer of Vassar, Michigan formerly of Millington, Michigan passed away Sunday morning May 19, 2019 while at Vassar Fields Assisted Living in Vassar, Michigan.  Shirley was 86.

She was born on April 2, 1933 in Flint, Michigan the daughter of Lyndon F. and Helen (Bessy) Boger. On April 14, 1951 Shirley married Floyd B. Shaffer Jr. they celebrated 63 years of marriage.

Shirley was a stay-at-home wife and mother for most of her life. She worked for Weber’s IGA in Millington, Michigan in the bakery for a short period of time with her son, Dennis. She also provided childcare for a special family to her and our dad. The Koch family from Millington, Michigan. To those who knew her best, she was also a part time mentor and counselor.  A gift that God had given her. She had a way of giving you the truth straight up and people respected her for that. We will miss her.

Shirley leaves to cherish her memory three children, Rhonda (Mike) Sykes, Dennis (Robin) Shaffer and Namman (Karen) Shaffer, six grandchildren; Scott Kowitz, Benjamin Kowitz, Brooke Shaffer- Kooiker, Alicia Shaffer, Nicole Shaffer and Jacob Shaffer. Two great-grandchildren; Taylor (Blackmer) Duby, and her husband John, and Grace Kowitz. One sweet little great-great grandson Kade Duby, with a sweet little great-great granddaughter coming in June. Shirley is preceded in death by her husband Floyd Shaffer in 2015, her parents, and a brother Gerald Boger.

The family has honored Shirley’s request and cremation has taken place. There will be a time for sharing and visiting with the Shaffer family on Thursday May 23, 2019 from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm at the Calvary Chapel Fellowship (7501 Frankenmuth Rd. Vassar, MI 48768). Beginning at 3:00 pm Pastor Tony Jacobs will give a brief eulogy. In Lieu of Flowers; gifts of remembrance can be directed to charity of one’s choice.
