Mrs. Nancy Lee “Nan” LaBean (Coon), age 82, our passionate, kind, fun, playful, fair negotiator, inspiring, fiercely loyal, protective, strong, loving, heart of gold, caring, young at heart, and honest mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend entered eternal life on Sunday, June 15, 2025, at her home surrounded by loving family. Nancy was a beautiful, statuesque woman who always challenged you to be your best.

She was born on December 29, 1942, at home in Flint, Michigan, to Lester & Marjorie Coon (Bard). Nancy had a great fear of snakes and told many stories of her encounters with them over the years, either accidental or on purpose. While living in Flint, Nancy had to walk to school by herself and was fearful of the walk as she typically encountered a couple of intimidating classmates. Nancy proved her strength and was proud of herself when the classmates underestimated her abilities and she was not bothered any further. Nancy got a new pair of ice skates and was so excited to skate on the icy roads to school. However, she didn’t take into account the size of the hills on the route, after many struggles she was close enough to the school to hear the school bell ring. She thought she had made it by first bell, but soon realized it was the recess bell. Fear set back in as she imagined the consequences once her father came home from work.

Nancy moved a lot as a child and attended many different schools before her family settled in Otter Lake, Michigan. She met Joe LaBean after befriending his sister, Della, at Millington Community Schools. God’s plan for the couple blossomed into a beautiful, lifelong relationship. Nancy and Joe were wed on May 16, 1959, and recently celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary.

During their first years of marriage, Nancy focused her attention on caring for the home and their children. She later worked in manufacturing and later learned to run the forklift. When she retired, she took on a housekeeping position at the Bavarian Inn Lodge in Frankenmuth.

Nancy and Joseph had their wedding blessed in the Catholic Church and continued to raise their children in the Catholic faith. They renewed their vows in the Catholic Church for their 50th wedding anniversary.

Nancy enjoyed all music and loved to sing! She also enjoyed ice skating, roller skating, bowling, camping, canoeing, traveling, gardening, dancing, card games, puzzles, baking with the grandkids or baking for any occasion, reading, swimming, picnics, family reunions, attending pow-wows, and gathering with friends & family.

She was a union president during her employment at Voplex in Vassar. She was a member of the Cantata choir at St. Joseph Parish in Mayville.

Nancy returned to adult education classes in Vassar and graduated as valedictorian for the Class of 1981.

She is forever loved by her children: Nicholas (Bill Kroll) LaBean, Scott (Chris) LaBean, Therese (Brian) Jones, Joseph LaBean II, Marjorie Hawkins, Michael (Michelle Ellis) LaBean; grandchildren: Juanita (Melinda Heldt) Huizar, Jessica White, Jesseca (Curtis) McLeod, Kristine White, Cory White, Elizabeth LaBean, Scotty (Serena Kukulski) LaBean, Raechelle (Riley) Chowning, Joshua (Aimee) Jones, Daniel McKracken, Jessie Werner, James (Kristen) Hawkins, Bradley (Katrina) Hawkins, Christopher McNinch, Michael McNinch, Devon (Justin) Chen, Alyssa (Zach) Thibeault, Reagan Eggert, Tessa Jo LaBean, and Michael LaBean II; great-grandchildren: Vincenzo, Alivia, Aryana, Imani, Kehlani, Samantha, Hope, Charlie, Lizzy, Haley, Scott Jr., Hunter, Seth, Nora, Sadie, Kimi, Charlotte, Brennan, Jaxson, Beau, Donovan, Zira, Will, Isaac, Zandar, Sarah, Zoey, Nancy, and Zachariah; sister, Doris (Ted) Horton; in-laws: Fred LaBean, Della French, Priscilla Jakubczak, Edward (Colleen) LaBean, Albert (Joyce) LaBean; in addition she was blessed with an abundance of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
