Raymond
Kennard
Feb 24, 1934 — Jun 26, 2026
VASSAR – Mr. Raymond Theodore “Ray” Kennard, aged 92, was called away on June 26, 2026, at Vassar Comfort Care surrounded by his loving family. The family extends their sincere thanks and appreciation to the nurses and staff of Covenant VNA Hospice and Vassar Comfort Care for their care of Raymond in his final days.
Raymond was born in Vassar on February 24, 1934, to R.J. Kennard & Freda Taylor. He attended Vassar schools and met the love of his life, Dolores Perry, in the 6th grade. Together they shared countless memories, raised their children, and celebrated nearly 70 years of marriage. Sadly, Dolores passed away on May 23, 2026, but are comforted that their lifelong love can now be celebrated in eternity. Raymond retired from Buick City after 30 years of dedicated service as an assemblyman. He enjoyed hunting, woodworking, and gardening. He was an avid fan of polka music and after church on Sunday mornings one could often find him reading the paper and listening to his favorite songs. A man of faith, Raymond was a longtime member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Vassar. Above all, Raymond was a family man, and his happiest moments were spent at family gatherings. He will be missed by those who knew and loved him. His sage advice and wisdom will live on; such as “a half tank is an empty tank”.
He is survived by his children: Michael (Mary) Kennard, Kim Cunningham, Karen (Dale) Becker; grandchildren: Elaine, Erik, Jeremy, Joshua, Amanda, Ashley, Heather, Bridget, Zach, and Emily; 18 great-grandchildren; sisters, Anna Mae Sargent, and Margie Atkinson; as well as several nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Raymond is reunited with his beloved wife, Dolores Kennard; son, David Kennard; parents, R.J. Kennard and Freda Taylor; brothers, Alfred Kennard, and Milfred Kennard; sister, Esther Goodell; and other family members.
A Celebration of Raymond’s life will be held at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Vassar at a time and date to be determined.
Those desiring may direct memorial gifts to St. Luke’s Lutheran Church or St. Luke’s Lutheran School.
Kindly share a memory with Raymond's family in the guestbook below.
