Richard “Rich” Erwin Bogert, 81, a life-long Vassar resident, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, July 18, 2023, in Saginaw, MI.

Rich was born in Saginaw on August 12, 1941, to parents Joseph & Hilda (Bessinger) Bogert, the youngest of five children. He graduated from Vassar High School with the class of 1960 and honorably served in the U.S. Army from 1963-1969, which included two years serving in Germany and active duty from April 1963-April 1965. He met the love of his life, Margaret Ann “Meg” McElroy in school. They dated, fell in love, and were wed on October 30, 1965. Together they shared countless memories, raising their two sons David and Mark, and celebrated 52 years of marriage before Meg’s passing in September of 2018. Rich retired from UPS after over 30 years of service. Further, he was a former member of the Vassar Fire Department and the Jaycees. He was an avid fly fisherman, and enjoyed hunting, camping, and going to his cabin. Above all, Rich loved his family and the time spent with them.

He is survived by his sons, David J. (Beth) Bogert, and Mark R. (Stacey) Bogert; grandchildren: Jacob (Lauren) Bogert, Luke Bogert, Devyn Bogert, and Nathan Bogert; adorable great-granddaughters, Ella Bogert, and Evie Bogert; as well as nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

Rich is preceded in death by his wife, Meg; siblings: Donald Bogert, Robert Bogert, Joan Bogert, and Norma Gunther; and a sister-in-law, Mary Mullvain.

Rich’s family will welcome guests to Hanlin Funeral Home – Vassar on Friday, July 21, 2023, from 4-8 p.m. The City of Vassar Fire Department will be conducting a fireman's walkthrough beginning at 6 p.m. Funeral services for Rich will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home; additional visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
