Robert Ames, of Millington passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on Tuesday November 29, 2022. He was 81.
Bob was born on July 2, 1941 in Richfield Center, to Ellis and Nellie (Hale) Ames. Bob moved to the Millington area and became a foster child of the Pletcher family, who took him in and became his family. Bob graduated from Millington High School with the class of 1959. After high School, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served as an electrician on the USS Sailfish submarine. While on leave he met the love of his life Donna Edwards who he spent the next 50 + years with, sadly Donna preceded Bob in death on April 3, 2015. After his service in the Navy, he returned home to start his career as an electrician at Buick Powerhouse. Bob was a member at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Millington, where he served on the Board of Trustees for many years. He was also very involved with the Millington Historical. Society, building the display cases. Bob could frequently be found in his workshop making components for high end cabinet shops, or enjoying working with Donna on their home, which he was extremely proud of.
To carry on his legacy he leaves his sister Rosemary; two sons, Todd Ames and Timm (Nancy) Ames; grandchildren : Lucas, Ryan, Sylvia, Brittney, Jenni, Jarrod, and Catherine; great grandchildren Brienna and Nicholas.
Other than his parents, and wife Donna he was preceded in death by his brothers Cliff and Eddie Ames; Glen, Lowell, Elewyn, and Clyde Pletcher.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to American’s Home Health care and hospice; nurses: Barb, Kristin, Dana, and Nicole. As well as a special thank you to hospice provider Mr. Khan.
The family will welcome guests to Hanlin Funeral Home - Millington on Saturday, December 10, 2022 from 11 am to 2 pm for a time to gather and celebrate Bob’s life.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Millington High School Industrial Arts program.
