Ronald J. Leach Sr.

October 9, 1938 — June 16, 2025

Millington

Mr. Ronald James “Ron” Leach Sr., age 86, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 16, 2025, at his home surrounded by his family.

Ron was born in Watertown Twp, Michigan, on October 9, 1938, to Clare & Lila (Kowitz) Leach. He was the sixth of nine children and a lifelong Millington area resident. One evening while at Schumaker’s Restaurant, he met Linda Long, who was working 3rd shift as a cook during the summer. The two soon wed and shared countless memories as they celebrated 53 years of marriage.

Before retirement, Ron worked with the Tuscola County Road Commission as a heavy equipment operator for 40 ½ years. Ron was involved in the community and was a member of the Millington Lions Club, Millington Summer Festival, and Millington-Arbela Historical Society. Ron loved the Lord and was a longtime member of the Millington Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, trustee, and moderator. He enjoyed camping, playing softball, John Deere tractors, the Detroit Tigers, and gardening. Above all, Ron proudly wore the title of “Grandpa” and doted on his grandchildren. He never missed a game or event and was their biggest fan. He will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him.

Ron is survived by his beloved wife, Linda Leach; daughters, Jessie (Jeff) Bassett, and Bethany Leach; granddaughter, Brooklyn Bassett; grandson, Brycen Bassett; sisters: Joyce Schmitzer, Irma Jean Mason, and Bernice Carr; in-laws, R-dell & Gail Schlaud, Curt & Nancy Fisher, Randy & Betty Opperman, and Rick & Nancy Opperman; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his sons, Ronald J. Leach Jr., Bryan Leach; parents, Clare & Lila Leach; siblings: Helen Long, George Leach, Marleah Hoard, William Leach, and Raymond Leach; and in-laws, Herb & Marjorie Opperman.

Ron’s family will receive visitors at Hanlin Funeral Home – Millington from 4 – 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 19, 2025. Funeral services will follow at the funeral home at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 20, 2025; additional time of visiting from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Pastor Terry Blackmer will officiate. Afterward, Ron will be laid to rest in Millington Twp. Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be directed to the Millington Baptist Church.
