Wilma (Allen) Reamy

October 28, 1922 — May 7, 2020

Wilma Luella Reamy, 97, died Thursday, May 7, at Vassar Fields Assisted Living.  She was born in Vassar, Michigan, on October 28, 1922, daughter of the late William and Ethel (Laur) Allen.  She married Ralph Reamy on April 30, 1946 in Vassar.  They were married for 58 years until his death November 30, 2004.

Wilma taught many years, including teaching at one room schoolhouses—the Rowley School and Teetzel School.  She then taught several years at Tuscola, and many years at Vassar, finishing up her career in the Vassar Public Schools, teaching 2nd grade at Townsend North.  She was always happy when one of her former students saw her and remembered her.

After her retirement, she became involved in several organizations, including the Millington-Arbela Historical Society, the Vassar Historical Society, MARSP and the Millington Red Hat Society.

She had several talents, including making ceramic items, which she shared with family, and creating porcelain dolls. She also enjoyed visiting with friends and family, reading, playing Mahjong, making quilts, and doing embroidery.

Wilma and Ralph had three sons of whom she was immensely proud, all survive her. Allen (Marj), of Vassar, Gene (Nancy), of Bothell, WA, and Robert Dea (Marcie) of Davison.  She was also blessed with four grandchildren:  Jason; Blair and wife, Becky; Alyse and fiancé Nick Zabel; and Ryan, and three great-grandchildren; Grant, Marissa and Arianna.

She is survived by three brothers: Cleo (Audrey) Allen of Las Vegas, NV, Orlin (late Sharon) Allen of Romeo, Ullery Allen of Millington, and sister-in-law, Verna Allen. She was preceded by sister Edith (Jay) Ducolon, and brothers Lynn and Laur Allen. Wilma is also survived by many nieces and nephews, as well as many dear friends.

The family has honored Wilma’s request and cremation has taken place. A celebration of Wilma’s life will be held at a later date. Hanlin Funeral Home has been assisting the Reamy family with arrangements. Memorial gifts of remembrance can be directed to the Vassar Historical Society or the Millington-Arbela Historical Society, two groups she was very active in up until fairly recently.
