Gordon Blake

October 29, 1950 — July 13, 2020

” Life always seems to flee the righteous too swiftly; time is but a number in this world; he spent it loving and caring for the people around him. He will be greatly missed and cherished beyond belief.”

Gordon Dewey Blake,69, passed away Monday, July 13, 2020, at his birth home in Vassar, Michigan, after a fierce three-year battle with cancer. Gordon was born on October 29, 1950, to Darwin George and Norma Jean (Sherman) Blake in Vassar, Michigan, as their second oldest of four children. Gordon was a fourth-generation farmer. His Great Grandfather Darwin Blake started the family farm in Vassar in 1871, making this one of the few Centennial Farms in Michigan

Gordon loved farming. His dad Darwin taught him to farm the old-school way, which was passed down from generation to generation.  Never needing much, Gordon was a man who was always appreciative of what he had and always gave to those in need expecting nothing in return. He loved to watch the crops grow every year and do what he loved to do – farm with a passion and dedication – something also passed down to him from generation to generation.

Gordon was tough as steel but gentle; and he was a loving man who would do anything to help others. He was never afraid of hard work. He much enjoyed the Detroit Tigers, anything to do with numbers, he was incredibly skilled in mathematics and could remember dates and stories of family history from long ago. He also loved to travel around Michigan, Indiana, and Ohio into Amish settlements with his soulmate.

He married his soulmate of 11 years, Kim Louise (Toombs) Blake, on August 12, 2009. Gordon is survived by his loving wife, Kim; Stepsons and stepdaughter in-laws, Daniel (Kimberly) Blake, Matt (Haley) Blake, Tyler Blake, Cody (Kirsten) Blake; and, step-grandchildren, Ryleigh Blake, Savannah Jackson, Clark Blake, Caralina Jackson, and Sawyer Blake, and his life long friend Dennis & Cheri Mangold. Gordon was preceded in death by his parents and brother.

The family has honored Gordon's request and private family and burial services has been held. Gordon was laid to rest in the Newton Cemetery in Arbela Twp., Millington, MI. Hanlin Funeral Home has been assisting the Blake family with arrangements. Memorial gifts in remembrance of Gordon can be give to a charity of your choice.
