John Meinecke

December 4, 1932 — November 7, 2020

John William Meinecke, age 87, died Saturday, November 7, 2020, at home. He was born December 4, 1932, in Davison, Michigan. His parents were Henry and Amelia Meinecke, and he was one of nine children.

He was confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Millington, Michigan, in 1947. John, known to everyone as “Jack,” graduated from Millington High School in 1950. In 1951 he joined the marines, and he received a purple heart medal for his service during the Korean War.

After the war, Jack joined Buick. During his career, he graduated from General Motors Institute in the 1960’s; worked at the foundry; and eventually, he retired in 1992-with 45 years of service as an environmental engineer.

Jack is survived by his wife Patricia S. Meinecke. He has a large family, consisting of Brenda June, John Henry Meinecke (Kelly), Lee Ann Smith, Dawn Kapp, Carrie Andrews (Tony), Heather KS Nallley (Thomas Boyer),  and 20 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. He is also survived by sister-in-law Luella Meinecke, and Judy Pletcher (Clyde), and brother-in-laws John Wiacek and Richard Wiacek (Bonnie).

Jack enjoyed farming crops and raising his cattle. He was an avid gardener, sharing much of his crop with the community. His community was important to him. He volunteered his time to the Millington Community Center – his years of hosting the Cow Daddy Picnic helped get the community center started.  He also enjoyed his involvement with the Lions Club, where he served a president, treasurer, and tail twister (which he really enjoyed). Jack donated his time and skills to many things like little league Baseball, building floats for the Millington Festival’s annual bed races.

Due to the current situation, no memorial service will take place. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the Hanlin Funeral Home. Any donations on behalf of John “Jack” Meinecke can be made to the Millington Lions Club or Millington Community Center.
