Neil Evart Downey

April 16, 1941 ~ February 9, 2021 (age 79)

Neil Evart Downey of Millington, was taken peacefully by the Lord, on Tuesday February 9, 2021.

Neil was born in Flint, Michigan on April 16, 1941 and was the son of the late Clare and Evelyn (Scrimger) Downey.  On August 30, 1963,  Neil married Miss  Dollie Mae Barrett and together they celebrated 46 years, before Dollie passed away on October 15, 2009.

Neil was employed for 38 years with General Motors, at the V-8 plant.

In the early years, when Neil wasn't working he enjoyed fishing and deer hunting at the family cabin with his brother and brother in-law.  In 1972, he moved his family from Flint to Millington.  Neil started collecting tractors and clearing the property for huge gardens.

Neil was a quiet but generous man, he helped his wife's family countless times, without ever having the opportunity to meet them.  For 18 years, he generously supported a boy from Guatemala.

Neil's hobbies varied over the years, from tractors, to raising hunting dogs, and coin collecting. For the last ten years of Dollie's life. Neil was her sole caregiver. After her passing he asked to live in solitude.

Neil leaves to cherish his memory three daughters: Patricia (Gary) Holman, Maria (Robert) Downey-Stewart, and Angela (Don) Moffatt II. He also leaves ten grandchildren, three great grandchildren, two sisters: Judith Serna, Edna (Arthur) Rozmowski, also leaving nieces, nephews, other extended family, and friends. Besides his wife, and parents, Neil is also preceded in death by two brothers; Seth and Paul, his son James Downey and granddaughter Ruby Downey-Stewart

Respecting Neil’s request there will be no services. The family will have a private gathering after which Neil will be cremated, and a private urn burial will take place at the Flint Memorial Park Cemetery in Mt. Morris Michigan.
