Mrs. Viola M. (Burns) Kinney of Millington, Michigan passed away early Monday
morning October 5, 2020 at the age of 93.
Viola was born April 3, 1927 in Millington, Michigan and was the daughter of Harry and
Mildred (Bush) Burns. Viola has been a Millington resident most of her life. She
graduated from Millington High School in 1945. In August of 1946 Viola married James
Kinney, and together they celebrated 62 years of marriage before Jim’s passing in
June of 2009. When she was able, she was an active member of the Millington United
Methodist Church, of which she has been a lifelong member. As a teen, Viola and Jim
met in the Methodist Youth Fellowship and immediately fell in love.
Viola loved kids. In addition to raising 10 of her own, she operated a Child Day Care at
her home for 15 plus years. In fact, if one dials KIDS on the phone, her address will be
found: 5437 Barnes Rd.
Viola leaves her family. Tim (Carolyn) Kinney, Dan (Susan) Kinney, Debbie (Vern)
Wilkinson, Tom Kinney, Libbie Kinney-Knauer, Pete (Darlene) Kinney, Ben Kinney,
Rachel Pierson, Hannah Henderson, and daughter in-law Dianne Kinney. She also
leaves 16 grandchildren, 28 great and several great-great grandchildren, a brother
Alfred (Albertine) Burns, and many nieces, nephews, and extended family. Besides
her parents, and husband, Viola is also preceded in death by; a son David Lee, a
daughter Dinah Ruth, a grandson Nathan John, four brothers; George, Norman, Lloyd,
and Lyle Burns, a son-in-law Glen Pierson, and many life-long friends.
Friends may call at the Hanlin Funeral Home in Millington, MI on Thursday October 8,
2020 from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm. Memorial Gifts of remembrance in Viola’s memory
can be directed to Millington United Methodist Church. Funeral services for Viola will
be private. Her burial will follow services at the Millington Township Cemetery. Hanlin
